General RV, Major Fail.

Let’s start this by saying not all dealerships are excellent. Not all are Horrible, some are just eh. Our family had outgrown our pull behind camper and needed more space. We searched across more dealerships than I can remember with just as many floor plans. Once we figured that a rear bunk mid kitchen 5th wheel is what we wanted we then had to pick a manufacture. Just about everyone makes something like that. At the time we were looking just about every unit made had dark colors inside. We found a brand called Alliance RV and my wife fell in love with the big open windows, bright interior colors and the idea of a half bath. We decided to go with the Alliance RV Avenue 36BRM (more on this in later post).

We ended up at General RV in Richmond, VA. Initial thoughts were good. Sales was not pushy, took time to drive us around and show what we wanted to see not what they had to get off the lot.

Now like all RVs out there they are not perfect. There was a lot of small things we noticed when we walked it with the sales guy. We told him about these issues and were told they would be addressed when we pick it up.

We started our pickup day at 10am. Got there and figured where to park our trade in. Then comes the wait. About noon we were met by a person that only does intro walk throughs. While doing that we pointed out everything we told the salesman about and a few other things we noticed. We were assured that it would be taken care of as he was writing everything down. This whole event took about an hour. We went back to the waiting room and were told it would be a little bit. Well after about an hour of waiting we walked over to the parts / accessories area and looked over a few things. Ended up getting some stuff since they were giving an extra discount since we were buying the RV there that day.

Finally around 3pm they bring the camper out to the pickup area, remember we still have not seen finance to finish taking care of that part. We walked out and looked around the unit. None of the stuff that we pointed out to the tour guide (not sure of his official title) had been addressed. I finally found someone to ask them about it and they said it would be taken care of.

Finally around 4:30 (half hour before close) they decided we waited long enough to finish paperwork. Took about 45 min to get that taken care of. So were now 15 min past close.

Finally were done, ready for the hour and half drive back to the campground we were in. Get to where they had the trailer sitting and guess what, still nothing was done. I was lucky enough to find one of the guys moving units to the back lot that was able to get someone to fix some of the things they were notified about around noon. They fixed the baggage doors that were not locking shut and the electrical issue with kitchen lights not dimming. I was told they are closing and we would need to schedule with service to bring it back in. Now from when we went through it with the sales guy to the day we picked it up was almost 2 weeks.

We never went back, we did however reach out to Alliance RV with concerns and will discuss that in a later post as well. Let’s just say we went with the right manufacturer.

Last thing, all that time we were waiting for financing to get the paperwork correct and ready for us was useless. They had to send us new paperwork to sign twice because they kept putting the wrong info into it. They also took almost 3 mo to get the plates to us. Some reason they send it all to CA to be processed.

Overall we will never use General RV for any needs. It was such a pain dealing with them.
